To achieve this goal, the European Commission is proposing a comprehensive, staggered package of measures. Investments in green technologies and the development of sustainable concepts offer new opportunities for companies and form the basis for Europe's new growth strategy. The European Green Deal encompasses all economic sectors. Its design and financing therefore pose a major challenge for both rural areas and the agricultural and food sector. Beyond existing programs, it is important to develop sustainable strategies, particularly in the areas of climate protection, biodiversity, and food supply, and to implement them in the form of concrete measures. Sustainable concepts such as the circular economy, as well as the introduction and implementation of social innovations, are likely to be of key importance in this regard.

A particular highlight of the conference were the two high-profile plenary lectures: Dr. Wolfgang Burtscher, Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development, delivered his presentation on the topic of “Green Deal – Strategies of the Common Agricultural Policy”. Dr. Sebastian Lakner, Professor of Agricultural Economics at the University of Rostock, addressed the topic “What can the EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) contribute to biodiversity conservation?”

Documents:
Proceedings | 30th ÖGA Annual Conference
Programme | 30th ÖGA Annual Conference (state: 2020-09-14)

If you have any questions, please contact us at oega_tagung@boku.ac.at

Print-Version
