While existing crises such as advancing climate change and the destruction of habitats and ecosystems, which are driven by our economic system and lifestyle, are currently receding into the background, existing social inequalities are becoming even more visible. In order to address multiple crises, current forms of economic activity and consumption, as well as our approach to the environment, must also be questioned. The experiences and insights of the past year can be seen as an impetus for transforming the agricultural and food sector and for shaping rural areas towards more resilient systems. Coping strategies in (agricultural) policy and at all levels of social and economic action should address the following questions: How are the recent crises changing existing agricultural and food systems (e.g., the dependence of agricultural production and processing sectors on foreign workers)? What opportunities and risks arise with regard to transformation processes already initiated (e.g., CO2 reduction, energy sector)? What role do the individual actors along the value chain play, as well as the state with its regained and recognized role of economic management? What significance does science have for the analysis and management of crises?

The conference highlights were the two high-profile plenary lectures: Dr. Ika Darnhofer (BOKU University, Vienna) addressed the topic “Crises from a Resilience Perspective.” Prof. Peter Feindt (Humboldt University of Berlin) delivered his lecture on “The Crises of Agricultural Policy – Resilience and Reflexivity as Perspectives for Analysis and Design”.

DOWNLOADS:

Conference Proceedings 2021

Programme | 31st ÖGA Annual Conference (state: 2021-09-13)

Conference Schedule 2021

Contact

If you have any questions, please contact us at oega_tagung@boku.ac.at or by calling +43/1/47654 _73300.

Print-Version
