European Association of Agricultural Economists: www.EAAE.org

ERAE information :

The European Review of Agricultural Economics now accepts review articles, and the ERAE Editors welcome proposals for review articles from EAAE members. Review articles should provide a comprehensive and scholarly account of a topic that has direct relevance to agricultural economics (methodological or applied) and that has not recently been covered in the literature. A pre-submission enquiry is required. If you are interested in writing a review article for ERAE, please send an abstract, outline, and key references to erae.editorialoffice@oup.com .

XVI EAAE Congress

Following its postponement due to the coronavirus crisis, the XVIth Congress of the EAAE Association took place virtually this summer from the 20th to the 23rd of July. Over 800 registered participants from more than 50 countries joined the event, with a core programme consisting of six keynote presentations, three invited panel discussions, 232 oral presentations of contributed papers, 53 organised sessions, 11 organised panel discussions and 211 posters (altogether 43 hours of virtual communication). In addition, participants had the opportunity to enjoy a live concert of chamber music, discover the Czech and Slovak agri-food industries through 10 virtual field trips and link up with congress organising institutions and partners through virtual exhibitions.

All contributions to the congress have been recorded and will remain available to registered participants from the virtual platform for three months after the end of the congress.

The EAAE board will soon invite the participants to fill out a survey to ask for their feedback on the organisation of the congress.

During the closing ceremony, the Programme Committee (PC) handed out awards for the best poster and best contributed paper of the congress. The selection of awarded contributions started with the PC drawing a shortlist of contributed papers and posters based on the outcome of the peer-review process of all submitted contributions. Each short-listed contribution was then further assessed at the congress by two PC members, with the final mark combining the results of the peer-review of proposals and the assessment of contributions at the congress.

Q Open welcomes submissions

Q Open is the Open Access initiative of the EAAE. It aims to be an inclusive forum for applied economics research broadly in the area of agricultural and environmental economics and cognate fields. The main areas of coverage are agricultural economics, environmental and climate economics, natural resource economics, development economics (agricultural/rural topics) and food economics (and related nutrition- and health economics topics). Q Open welcomes replications and ‘null-result’ research. It also welcomes pre-registered experimental research, where an empirical research project and its methodology are peer-reviewed prior to data collection. The final article is then provisionally accepted on condition that the author follows the registered methodology.

Proposals for special issues are encouraged. Q Open is committed to fast peer-review, and aims to provide authors with a first decision within 4-6 weeks of submission. Q Open operates ‘sound-science’ peer review, where the focus is on scientific rigour and reflects the state-of-the-art in the field. The editorial decision on acceptance/rejection relies less on the often subjective evaluations of likely impact, novelty, or breadth of interest. The practice of existing journals in the field shows that the editorial process has limited success in evaluating along these dimensions of manuscript quality and it may be a source of publication bias, as currently discussed in the scientific community in general. Authors are encouraged to share the decision letter and reviews from previous submissions to assist the editors and to make the review process as efficient as possible. In most cases, the editors will seek at least one further review. Authors have the option to choose a no-revision review. This means that they are guaranteed not to receive a decision requiring them to do a major revision. Under this option, submissions that require substantial revision will be rejected.
