Call for Proposals

Allied-association session at the AAEA meeting in Washington, DC, July 23-25

The EAAE is invited to self-organize an allied association organized symposium at the Annual Meeting of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Associations. We invite members who wish to organize or join the symposium for an expression of interest.

Organized Symposium sessions highlight ideas or works-in-progress on a topic involving cooperative or competing efforts by two or more panelists. Symposia may involve panel discussions or prepared questions, debates, roundtable meetings, or other formats. At least half of the session time should be reserved for discussion among the panelists and between the panelists and the audience. The idea of the allied association organized symposium is to represent European perspectives on topics of mutual interest at the AAEA Annual Meeting. The organizer must be member of the EAAE.

Speakers and organizers are responsible for their own travel cost, incl. the registration fee. All presenters, speakers and discussants must be members of AAEA and registered for the Annual Meeting by Thursday, May 17.

Proposals should include session title, session organizer(s) name, session organizer institution, rationale of the session, and a list of panelists/speakers including their affiliation. Proposals are expected by March 26, 2023 and to be sent to eaae@wur.nl.

lOOKING for Organizers of the next EAAE PhD Workshop 2024

The EAAE is looking for colleagues to organize the 10th EAAE PhD workshop in 2024.

After nine very successful PhD workshops all over Europe (Wageningen, Rennes, Gießen, Nitra, Leuven, Rome, Barcelona, Uppsala, Parma), we are now looking for a location and organizers of the 10th workshop. The objective of the EAAE PhD Workshop is to give young colleagues from different countries the opportunity to present their research in a conference setting and to get feedback from peers and senior economists.

A PhD workshop usually hosts 100-150 participants over 2-3 days.

Right now, we are looking for informal expression of interest to organize this workshop. While applications from all European countries are very welcome, we in particular encourage colleagues from Eastern Europe to do so. If you are interested and/or you have any further questions, please contact our Klaus Salhofer (Klaus.salhofer@boku.ac.at) within the next month.

EAAE Fellow Awards

The EAAE is now seeking nominations for the Fellow Awards for the 2021‐2023 triennial period. Nominations must be received by the Secretary‐General of the Association (eaae@wur.nl) by the March 1, 2023.

Q Open – The Evolution of Open Access

Our new journal Q Open is now in its 2nd year. The rationale of Q Open for our profession is growing strongly. A good example is Horizon Europe (the EU’s key research and innovation funding programme until 2027) that has implemented a policy that means that research will need to be made OA on publication, and that funding will only be available to fund publication fees in full OA outlets. Furthermore, Horizon Europe funding will not support funding of research publications in hybrid journals (i.e., journals with a paywall and OA options).

It is in this context that Q Open potentially offers our profession the possibility of publishing research that meets the increasingly demanding OA requirements whilst also providing a publication platform that brings with it the necessary reputation and support, that academic researchers require in building a career. Of course, for Q Open to meet the needs of our profession it is important that Q Open grows its reputation and becomes established as a target journal for academics to publish in. It is in this context that we encourage members of the profession to seriously consider Q Open as an outlet for their high-quality research.

We realise that much hard work remains, if we are to achieve our objective of being a top-ranking field journal in the areas we cover (i.e., agricultural economics, environmental and climate economics, natural resource economics development economics and food economics) it is essential that we continue to receive the support that we already have from our colleagues. The transition to OA will not be easy for the profession and society/community-based journals. Fully OA journals have to become established in terms of Impact Factors and need to have a minimum size not to be loss-making. To transform community/society-based publishing with its advantages of good networks of authors and reviewers, linked also to congresses and seminars with special issues, we call upon society members to contribute to this transition by submitting and helping to review for Q Open.

The Q Open Editors: Iain Fraser, Erwin Bulte, Vincenzina Caputo, Phoebe Koundouri and David Lewis.
